My first ballroom dance competition

Ballroom competition

Here is a picture of my first ballroom dance competition this past December. When I’m not on set—whether it be for an independent film or TV show—or on stage rehearsing for a play, you’ll find me taking ballroom dance classes. Dance has always been an integral part of my life. Actually, my dance background in ballet, jazz and modern has enabled me to work in musicals including Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon, On The Town and White Christmas. However, last year I started taking private ballroom classes and I got totally hooked. Let’s just say I fell head over heels… for Argentine Tango, Salsa, Mambo, Rumba, Bolero, Cha-Cha, Jive, Hustle, Foxtrot, AND Waltz.

Thank you to the best ballroom dance teachers at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Aventura: Slavic and Maria. You guys push me to excel and you believe in my abilities. I learn something new every time I take class.

For the record, I was completely terrified at the thought of competing but I had made a promise to myself at the beginning of last year and that was to start doing something every day that scares me. So, feeling the fear, I did it anyways as the author Susan Jeffers would have put it. In the end, I took home two medals that day and achieved first place in all my categories! Plus, I felt fabulously sexy due to Maria giving me a ballroom makeover—slicked back hair, eye-turning dazzling makeup and of course the much needed magic tan. Lol. I plan to dance till I turn 100 God willing.
